Billy’s Buddies is a Ball Sports Program owned and designed by NRL Superstar, Billy Slater to teach children aged 2-6 the fundamentals of ball sports.
Together with exercise sports scientists and early childhood teachers, the Program has been designed to enhance children’s gross motor skills, hand eye coordination, ability to work in a team and their confidence in a fun and safe environment.
What’s involved?
Each week, registered children participate in a 40-minute Session facilitated by a professionally trained Billy’s Buddies Coach. These Sessions are full of fun, exciting theme-based games and activities balance with just the right amount of structure.
It’s all about fun through subconscious learning! For example, the kids might be having the best time as their favourite super agile Ninja Turtle but they’re also mastering being able to catch the ball while running!
Where do the Programs run?
Billy’s Buddies run Childcare Centre Programs (super popular with busy working parents!) and Park Session Programs. Park Sessions run all across Brisbane and typically run on Saturday mornings at local sports clubs. In South East Queensland, there are Programs running as far north as the Sunshine Coast and as far south as the Gold Coast so there’s heaps of options!

Why Billy’s Buddies?
Billy’s Buddies pride themselves on their alignment with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) practice of ‘learning through play’. As a children’s sporting Program it is obvious that they promote play-based learning but how do they do this?
They frequently refer to the 5 key learning outcomes when developing and revising the Program.
1. Children have a strong sense of identity;
2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world;
3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing;
4. Children are confident and involved learners; and,
5. Children are effective communicators.By incorporating different themes into their weekly Sessions, the children are able to identify and connect with the activities through something that is already familiar to their social world.
Role reversal is also something that is practiced regularly. By letting the children run a specific activity instead of the Coach, it allows them to communicate not only what they have learnt but also changes the way they get involv
