The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy has been delivering dynamic and engaging self-development drama classes for almost 40 years. Starting in WA in 1979, and now in 28 countries, there are over 50,000 students attending weekly classes around the world!
We run classes in over 30 suburbs across Perth, Rockingham and Mandurah, so there is sure to be a venue near you!
When our students come to class, they know they going to have a fun-filled lesson. What they often don’t realise is that they are also learning valuable skills that will enable them to succeed both in school and life. Our curriculum has been developed to allow creativity and imagination, within a carefully structured lesson.
Our Kindy program for 3 – 5 year olds captures the imagination of young children and introduces them to the fun and joy of drama.Classes include speech training, dramatic play, creative movement, music, story-telling, dressing up, listening games, role-playing and heaps more.
Our Primary classes for 5 – 8 year olds and 9 -12 year olds continues on with the fun and imaginative style of drama, with plenty of opportunities for children to develop their creative sides. The speech training continues, developing children’s skills in projection, articulation and expression. The curriculum also covers creative movement, improvisation, dialogue development and some short script work. At the end of Term 4, each class performs their own play, on stage, to family and friends.
Our Youth classes for 13 – 17 year olds, involves more advanced skills, with our main emphasis on self-development still at the fore. Students have the opportunity for plenty of creative input as they tackle scripts, whole class and small group improvisations, characterisation skills, and participating in delivering pieces in a variety of theatre styles. This all culminates in their own class play at the end of each year.
Einstein said “Imagination is more important than knowledge”, which the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy Principals and teachers totally agree with! We teach children to develop improvisation skills to help them understand how to appraise situations, think outside the box and be more confident going into new scenarios. Students learn to trust their ideas and abilities.
Our classes teach so many more life skills, such as empathy, cooperation, resilience, concentration and memory. The Helen O’Grady
